ASUS ROG X570 Crosshair VIII Formula AM4 Zen 3 Ryzen 5000 & 3rd Gen Ryzen ATX...

Introduction

Let’s take a look at the ASUS flagship motherboard with the X570 chipset of the ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII formula. It provides a balance of high-end features, such as overclocking tools, beautiful appearance and heat dissipation, and a built-in EKWB VRM unit.

This high-quality ASUS motherboard for overclockers and water coolers-Asus currently has no signs of an Extreme variant. Therefore, the current ROG Crosshair VIII formula is the key to AM4, and we will understand its working principle

Specifications

ASUS Republic of Gamers Hero X570 Crosshair VIII introduces a very powerful VRM configuration, which consists of 8 phases in a 7 + 1 configuration and is enhanced by 16 MOSFETs. The controller on the motherboard combines a SOC and seven V cores.

It is a 16-phase design; ASUS does not use redundant equipment, but by integrating two MOSFETs and fine alloy coke, high-quality power connectors, and metal capacitors in each phase, it effectively doubles the number of power phases. Effective motherboard cooling and overclocking control are ideal for the toughest overclocking sessions. The integrated heat dissipation design has an active PCH radiator, ROG radiator, and M.2 aluminum radiator.

For PCIe 4.0 and multi-GPU support, as well as NVIDIA SLI and AMD Quad CrossFireX support. Powerful connection hotspots include built-in Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5, and a total of eight USB 3 devices.2 Gen2 and 4 Gen1 peripherals.

To meet today’s storage needs, it is equipped with a high-speed PCIe 4.0 M.2 slot. However, if your storage needs exceed normal levels, you can use up to 8 SATA 6 Gbps ports. In terms of memory, the motherboard can support up to 128 GB DDR4 RAM. Using the XMP profile, the memory can be overclocked to 5100 MHz. It finally has up to 5 PCIe x16 slots, and the two main slots are fully configured.

Connect additional fan and water pump connections. Aesthetically, the integrated Aura Sync RGB lighting is distributed throughout the panel, and the exclusive RGB connector with adjustable Gen 2 RGB connector makes them unique. One of the reasons this motherboard is included in the performance list is to support PCIe 4.0 standby mode.

For gaming enthusiasts looking for an immersive gaming experience, there is something more: the combination of ROG SupremeFX S1220 and DTS compatibility ensures first-class audio output.

Performance

During the test, the motherboard will be updated to the latest BIOS and retain its original settings, except for the XMP frequency in the standard benchmark test. As we all know, most motherboards have frequency multipliers, which will affect the overall performance.

These are part of your pre-configured configuration. We think it is best to use them as they are. All data given here are based on standard motherboard settings for standard performance. If necessary, overclocking performance will be displayed. all tests are done using the default DDR4-2133 settings.

The thermal conductive glue and coating methods of all coolers are the same. Each test sample was installed using Windows 10 Pro. The operating system image contains all tests and games. After the image is installed, the driver will be installed. An average of 3 reference runs is used for sampling.

In terms of power consumption, our ASUS power consumption is much higher than the Gigabyte board (Prime 95 Small FFT rated load is 164 W, while the power consumption of Gigabyte board is 148 W). Phantom Gaming X uses the most electricity. The load power is 218W under the standard-setting. When the PBO is turned on, the power consumption rises to a maximum of 219 W, which leads to negligible power consumption and an increase of 55 W. The performance score of inventory heroes is 9.6. Although it is not the most efficient in this group (Gigabyte X570 Aorus Ultra), it is approximately in stock. The overclocking function on the Crosshair VIII Hero Wi-Fi enables the core 1.32V to be overclocked to 4.224GHz, which can also be used through other panels in the stadium. It handled the overclocking with confidence: during the test, it felt hot but not hot. The VRM radiator mounted on the heat pipe can accomplish this task. This is the first card with voltage capture points we checked. Therefore, we decided to check the CPUz accuracy of this card. If we set the voltage on UEFI to 1.33 V, the output on CPUz in Windows is 1.328V. Our multimeter shows 1.33 V (rounded up). After all, he is very precise. When the LLC is in an automatic state, we can’t see any obvious droop tension. This is not the case with Asus’ unified VRM implementation. My Ryzen 5900X is fine.

Verdict

Asus does not have much room for repairs on the Crosshair series, but the past 3 years have proven to be the godfather of ROG motherboards. Manufacturers have already invested heavily in new boards, and the current flagship products indicate that some of these technologies will eventually become mainstream. ROG Crosshair VIII Formula is your partner, laying a good foundation for creating high-quality AMD products

GIGABYTE X570 AORUS Ultra –  Our Best Recommended Motherboard for Ryzen 9 5900X

GIGABYTE X570 AORUS Ultra (AMD Ryzen 5000/X570/ATX/PCIe4.0/DDR4/USB3.1/Realtek...

The Gigabyte X570 Aorus the low end of the mid-range X570. Direct competitors include ASRock Phantom Gaming X, ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Hero, and X570 Aorus Master. This Aorus motherboard is much cheaper than these models, so some features can be transferred here to lower the price. Overall, our impression of the X570 Aorus Ultra is positive. He successfully conducted overclocking and storage tests. Other tested X570 motherboards.

Specifications

If you are a gaming enthusiast and looking for a future-proof, feature-rich motherboard, then Gigabyte X570 Aorus Ultra includes all the components you need to raise the bar. Digital PWM controller and large advanced radiator can realize smooth overclocking.

The RGB clover fusion lights around the I/O screen and the multi-zone LED lights at the bottom are even aesthetically appealing. For gamers who want to add more RGB programs, there are built-in addressable LED and RGB headers. For data storage, the card has a two-channel memory architecture that can provide unbuffered DDR4 memory.

In terms of heat dissipation, the motherboard is a real capacitor with a special M.2 thermal protector, slender fins, and a heat sink. The board even provides water-cooled connectors and other fan connectors for users who want to take advantage of extreme overclocking.

The Gigabyte X570 Aorus Ultra is even at the top. When it comes to expansion slots with 3 PCIe x16 slots, the top two slots provide PCIe 4.0 mode with twice the bandwidth of the previous generation 3, metal reinforcement, for card installation Modern and 3D graphics and multi-NVIDIA SLI and AMD Quad CFX graphics support processors.

Performance

The Gigabyte X570 Aorus Ultra operates just like any other motherboard we have tested. In this case, the performance showed slightly less than 3% results. And the third level of memory configuration. Although an increase of 3% sounds realistic, the range of results in this section is also broader, and most tests do not make much difference.

Standby power consumption is the same. In this review, Gigabyte X570 Aorus Ultra uses the least power consumption than the other two boards. The Prime 95 Small FFT achieves a maximum power of 148 W, which is equivalent to Crosshair VIII’s 164 W and 218 W. For ASRock Phantom Gaming X, standby power consumption is the same for all purposes

In this test, Gigabyte X570 Aorus Ultra consumes the lowest power, and the lowest compared to the other two boards, and the maximum value of Prime 95 Small FFT reaches 148 W, while the maximum value of Crosshair VIII is 164 W, and the maximum of ASRock Phantom The value is 218W.

Verdict

Gigabyte X570 Aorus Ultra is a good choice for mid-range X570 motherboards. This can save a lot of money and in most cases just lose 2.5Gbps network functions and some SATA ports. Delivered, silent fan on the chipset, integrated Wi-Fi 6, and premium audio. You can spend more money to get some extra features that you might not use, but this motherboard is hard to beat at around $300.

ASUS AM4 TUF Gaming X570-Plus (Wi-Fi) – Best Budget Motherboard for Ryzen 9 5900X

ASUS AM4 TUF Gaming X570-Plus (Wi-Fi) AM4 Zen 3 Ryzen 5000 & 3rd Gen Ryzen ATX...

The $200 price point of TUF Gaming X570-Plus Wi-Fi can help buyers purchase the flagship chipset and all the items it provides while leaving budget space for other important details. ASUS achieved this goal without integrating additional post-I/O cards or “added value” such as a large number of RGB lighting.

Specifications

ASUS TUF Gaming X570-Plus (Wi-Fi) is still one of the best price-performance ratios for mid-to-high-end Ryzen processors on the market, even the new Ryzen 9 5900X. The point of sale is at this stage, so to speak, “cream has risen to the highest level”, and over time, you will almost certainly receive many similar suggestions.

The motherboard comes with 2 M.2 slots, Realtek 1G LAN + ALC S1200A audio codec, 3 USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports (1 Type C) + 4 USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, and 8 SATA III 6 Gbps ports.

Over the years, the ASUS TUF Gaming series has proven to be a reliable choice for many different Intel and AMD chipsets (including X570), so it is still our current choice for almost all chipsets. X570-Plus (Wi-Fi) has a 50A power cascade, 14-phase VRM (12 + 2), supports up to 128 GB DDR4 4400 MHz memory.

For network and audio, we found a Realtek L8200A GbE network card that supports 7.1 surround sound and Audio DTS and Realtek ALC S1200A audio codec. It includes eight SATA connectors and four DIMM slots, they can support up to 128GB of DDR4 RAM, but strangely, support for overclocking memory speed is not on the list

For assemblers looking for the most complete motherboard for less than $200 to connect to Ryzen processors, X570-Plus (Wi-Fi) is definitely not to be missed.

Performance

ASUS AM4 TUF Gaming X570-Plus Wi-Fi can perfectly overclock our Ryzen 9 5900X and achieved good results in the test. This laid a good foundation for building a new AMD Ryzen 5000 series system. Like other X570 motherboards, ASUS TUF games also support Ryzen 2000 and Ryzen 3000 series X570-Plus WLAN processors.

The overall performance difference between the boards we tested was negligible, except for the PBO results, which showed gains in synchronous applications, but was negligible in other respects. The worst result of X570-Plus Wi-Fi is performance. In these tests, performance was reduced by 8%.

The overall efficiency is good here: the inventory is 8.6%. Enabling PBO can greatly improve performance, and it will not even increase overall performance by 2%.

The creativity test shows that it ranks second. Therefore, with PBO enabled, this seems to be a compromise (which is not the best stability of PCMark). We saw 221W in the Prime 95 test, which is nearly 80W higher than the standard power. If you want to save a bit of power, turn off PBO because the power gain is not worth a significant increase in performance.

Verdict

ASUS TUF Gaming X570-Plus Wi-Fi is a powerful motherboard at a very reasonable price. Even in the overclocking test, the performance is almost the same when compared with expensive motherboards with similar prices. For TUF and Aorus Elite, ASUS is an option with many functions. If you are looking for USB-C and Wi-Fi on the back without limiting your motherboard budget, then ASUS TUF Gaming X570-Plus Wi-Fi is your best choice.

ASUS ROG Strix X570-I Mini-ITX Gaming Motherboard – Best mini-ITX Motherboard for Ryzen 9 5900X

ASUS ROG Strix X570-I Gaming, X570 Mini-ITX Gaming Motherboard, AMD Ryzen 3000 with...

ASUS ROG STRIX X570-I Gaming proves that their popularity will only increase. The $250 X570-I Gaming has always been our best choice for our best Ryzen Mini-ITX motherboard.

Of course, Ryzen Mini-ITX motherboards also have other excellent competitors (especially B550), but if you do choose Ryzen 9 5900X processor for your next compact PC build, you will need the best ROG STRIX X570 ITX motherboard.

Specifications

This small ASUS motherboard provides 70 A power supply, 10-phase VRM (8 + 2) with active cooling, supports up to 64 GB DDR4-4800 MHz memory, 2 M.2 slots, Intel Gigabit LAN + AX200 Wi-Fi 6+Bluetooth 5.0, SupremeFX S1220A audio codec, 4 USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports (Type 1-C) + 4 USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports and 4 SATA III 6 Gbit/s ports.

X570-I Gaming uses an already reliable power supply for active VRM cooling, which ensures that under the most limited conditions, it can maintain a beautiful and cool Ryzen 9 5900X under all conditions.

Compared with Gigabyte X570-I Aorus Pro WiFi, this is a smarter way to handle situations. The back I/O control panel (apparently without a built-in screen) is relatively well-equipped. For this price, we want more overclocking and testing tools-no power and reset buttons, POST code display, or power switch. Clear CMOS, and even no USB BIOS flashback.

ASUS Mini-ITX motherboard, there are many interesting boards on it. The audio part is installed horizontally, which unfortunately means you can only get three 3.5mm jacks. What’s really cool is that not only the entire board (including the top of the M.2) has a large SSD heat sink, but also the entire board is placed above the heat sink and the chipset fan using a vertical cable. Cooling n When necessary, some compromises must be made, but there are at least more USB ports than on the Gigabyte card: three USB 3.1 (USB 3.2) Type-A, Type-C, and four USB 3 ports.0 gives you a total of two more.

Performance

We are using the latest ASUS BIOS here, which includes some new improvements that will definitely change the performance of previous motherboards we have tested since the X570 was launched earlier this year. Slightly slower than the average speed of single-threaded output.

Overclocking obviously reduces it further and cancels the maximum overclocking frequency, but multithreading increases it by nearly 500 points. We see that Blender’s reference time is usually reduced by two seconds. The M.2 speed test is no problem. In this case, thanks to the large heat sink with reading and write speed, our M.2 SSD remains below 60°C under load. The speed of our PCIe 4.0 SSD is 4972 MB/s or 4273 MB/s.

In addition to the power consumption when overclocking, the power consumption is inconsistent and the overall effect is very poor. At 144W, it is nearly 30W higher than any other board we tested, which is usually around 100W. For example, Gigabyte X570 Aorus Pro WiFi-only consumes 102 watts.

This board provides a higher minimum frame rate in “Far Cry 5”. Again, this may be due to the more complicated BIOS, but the same thing happened after overclocking. One test of Time Spy did not work well. The test results of Time Spy were slower than other boards we tested, if not a lot.

The sound quality is good, but not great-Crosshair VIII Impact performs better here, but this is what enthusiasts and music makers worry about, and the result is still better than Gigabyte X570-I Aorus Pro WiFi.

Verdict

When looking for mini-ITX motherboards for third-generation Ryzen processors, you need to make some difficult choices. First of all, Strix is an impact beast with many additional features, but the features are far more than these. If you need PCIe 4.0 support, it is still worth considering using Gigabyte alternative products, because its shortcomings can be resolved to a large extent. However, the real problem with ROG Strix X570-I is its predecessor.

ASUS TUF Gaming B550M-PLUS (WiFi 6) – Best Micro-ATX Motherboard for Ryzen 9 5900X

ASUS TUF Gaming B550M-PLUS (WiFi 6) AMD AM4 (3rd Gen Ryzen microATX Gaming...

A few years ago, the ASUS TUF motherboard series meant heavy-duty fairing (ASUS is often referred to as armor) to provide protection, a wide range of features, and average price. To this day, the TUF brand has been focusing on low-cost gamers, especially in the field of notebook computers. Everything in the motherboard field has changed.

The TUF B550M-Plus Wi-Fi ($179.99) is in the low-to-mid-range of the B550. At this price, you can get a MicroATX card with 8 + 2 phase VRM, two M.2 slots, and Intel WiFi. 6 Even USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C port.

In the B550 form, we considered three parts of the ASUS TUF brand: TUF Gaming B550-Plus, TUF Gaming B550M-Plus, plus Wi-Fi. This includes TUF coils and capacitors, as well as enhanced PCIe slots, ESD protection for rear I/O and LAN.

Specifications

The VRM is powered by a single 8-pin EPS connector between the left side. And the leading VRM bank. The large VRM heat sink on the left extends above the rear I/O area and covers most of the circuit board below. The radiator bears the TUF Gaming gaming logo and the brand’s yellow and gray patterns.

Above the DIMM slot is one of two fan headers and a 4-pin RGB header. All fan headers support current up to 1A / 12W. I hope to at least see an increase in output support for multiple heavy-duty fans or water pumps. On the right side of the DIMM slot, you will find the 24-pin ATX power connector and the USB 3.2 Gen1 header connector on the front.

The card has three PCIe slots, two full-length slots, and one x1 slot. The full-height upper slot is reinforced by ASUS SafeSlot to protect the slot from cuts (and electromagnetic interference) from heavy graphics cards. CPU, and runs at PCIe 4.0 x16 speed.

The bottom full-size slot uses the bandwidth of the chipset and runs on PCIe 3.0 x4, while the top x1 slot is PCIe 3.0 x1, which is also derived from the chipset. This configuration is compatible with AMD 2-Way CrossfireX. In the same area, there are two M.2 connectors, which support modules up to 80 mm and PCIe and SATA-based devices.

The upper slot M.2 is directly connected to the processor and works with PCIe 4 x 4 (32 Gbit/s), while the lower slot is PCIe 3.0 x 4 (16 Gbit/s). There is no mention in this manual that the channels are divided into PCIe or SATA connections.

Performance

We recently updated the game benchmarks for “The Division 2” and “Forza Horizon 4”. The game will run with the Ultra preset of 1920 x 1080. As the resolution increases, the CPU is less affected. See if the most commonly used resolution does not match the settings most users use or at least aim to achieve.

We also couldn’t find any significant differences between the game benchmark and the 3DMark benchmark. 3DMark Fire Strike and Time Spy and our two games still show small differences. For the performance test, we used the AIDA64 system stability test, where the load processor, FPU, and cache have been enabled with maximum power consumption.

Pass through the Kill-A-Watt meter from the wall to cover the entire ecosystem. The only variable that is changed is the motherboard. All other parts are the same. When our test system was idle (using AMD’s balanced power management on Windows), the TUF B550M-Plus pulled out 52W of power, again putting it in the middle of the other results.

During the stress test, the load was 216 watts, which was one of the highest results. Although the energy consumption is higher, you will only notice it in tests like this, not on your utility bill. There are several ways to overclock.

On the AMD platform, it depends on your goals. If your goal is single-threaded performance, it is best to optimize PBO and let the motherboard and processor use the input parameters to solve this problem. Overclock all cores at the same speed. One of our goals is to test the capacity of the motherboard. Therefore, we chose the option that consumes the most power at 4.3 GHz and 1.35 V to overclock all cores/threads.

Verdict

ASUS TUF Gaming B550M-Plus WiFi achieved good results in our tests, and there was no problem with overclocking our CPU. The card contains four SATA ports, two M.2 slots, and various USB ports, including USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C. Back, this is the rarity of the price. The built-in Wi-Fi functions of AX200 and Realtek 2.5G LAN and TUF make the board more complete and fully functional.

Ryzen 9 5900X with Zen 3 Improvements over the previous Ryzen 9 3900X with Zen 2

AMD Ryzen 9 5900X with Zen 3 architecture has a lot of improvements over the predecessor the Ryzen 9 3900X with Zen 2 architecture. The most important update is the introduction of Unified CCX (Core Complex), where 8 CPU cores can share all 32 MB L3 cache at the same time.

Secondly, in addition to AMD’s small chip design and the new CCX, based on Zen 3’s internal testing, Zen 3’s architecture changes should also make the IPC higher than Zen 2 by approximately 19%. Of course, once Zen 3 is available, their results must contradict actual benchmarks, but since their first submission, AMD has been on the verge of honesty and accuracy in the past few years.

They are obviously proud of their recent work and have proven time and time again that they have good reasons. This time the developers will launch their shiny new Zen 3 processor, and AMD’s results will prove to be reliable. The last point, arguably the most impressive feature of Zen 3, is that the price has increased, but the TDP of Zen 3 is the same or lower than Zen 2 overall.

This means that when you choose a motherboard that supports Zen 3 (all 500s and most 400s series if a BIOS update is available), you can plug in Zen 3 processors like this! I get it as soon as possible! Zen 3 seems to reiterate AMD’s lead in the industry and does not plan to abandon it anytime soon.

To ensure “real” improvements year after year, they have maintained their promise of long-term hardware compatibility by maintaining the same slot (AM4+) until Zen 3.

Things to Consider Before buying the best motherboards for Ryzen 9 5900X

Number of RAM Slots Available on the Motherboard

There are a few things you need to consider when buying a new motherboard because these are all important. RAM slots are some of the most important slots because, without them, you might not understand correctly. Fortunately, you got 2-4 motherboard RAM slots.

These are designed for the Ryzen 5000 series or any other mainstream processors available. However, please pay attention to how many RAM slots are required.

Form Factor

When choosing a motherboard, I found that the shape plays a vital role in the whole process. I didn’t know this until I took my hand to the motherboard, it was too small for my case. It fits smoothly, but it looks outdated. When choosing a motherboard, I found that the shape plays a vital role in the whole process.

I didn’t know, until I picked up the motherboard, it was too small for my situation. When it installs seamlessly, it looks out of place. So it’s safe to say that when you talk about form factors, you need to make sure you get the correct form factor motherboard.

ATX will be the standard you should pursue. So it’s safe to say that when you talk about form factors, you need to make sure you get the correct form factor motherboard. ATX will be the standard you should pursue.
