Budget Pick
AMD Ryzen 5  5600X - Best Budget CPU for 1440p Gaming
9/10 Our Score

Let’s take a look at the AMD Ryzen 5  5600X CPU. This is a brand new 6-core/12-thread chip, based on the new Zen 3 architecture that debuted just a few months ago with the Ryzen 7 family of processors. In short, the  5600X is basically a smaller sibling to the  Ryzen 7 5800X.

The 5th AMD Ryzen processors are finally upon us, with a bunch of new CPUs to improve upon the first generation. We had the chance to get our hands on a couple of the chips, including the top-dog 6-core/12-thread Ryzen 5 5600X.

The AMD Ryzen 5 5600 X is an interesting processor with some unique features and applications that are not found on any of the other CPUs in its price range. This chip has high clock speeds which allows it to smooth out the frame flow while playing great AAA video games, which results in a silky smooth gaming experience.

Tested as a gaming CPU this chip does not disappoint. But for the average person that doesn’t play video games how good would this processor be? It more than holds its own when it comes to general applications such as web browsing, email, document creation and editing, image manipulation, and video transcoding. If you’ve been looking for a moderately priced CPU that is able to do it all then the new AMD Ryzen 5 processor.

Things to consider before buying a CPU – Buyer’s Guide

Now that Intel and AMD have released their new line of processors things are getting interesting. Both companies are promising a lot of power and performance. Whether you’re looking to build a new gaming PC or upgrade your current PC, it can be confusing figuring out which CPU to get. I’ve put together a list of things to consider before buying a CPU so you can confidently pick the best processor for your needs.

No of cores/threads

There are quite a few factors to be considered while buying the best CPU for RTX 3080 Ti. The main factor is the number of cores/threads. In this post, I will go through the details and select the top 2 processors that are good enough for gaming at 4K with RTX 3080 Ti or even other resolutions like 2160p, 3440 X 1440, and 3840 X 2160.

Generally, around 6 cores are more than enough for gaming. If you want to play the most CPU-demanding game at its highest graphics setting, then 8 core CPU is more than enough.

Clock Speed

Most AMD Ryzen 5th generation and Intel 11th generation CPUs vary from a base clock speed of 3.7GHz to a boost clock speed of 5.1 GHz. Since many games rely on single-core performance rather than multi-threaded performance. Higher the clock speed better will be the performance. If your CPU has liquid cooling installed then overclocking it can improve its gaming performance

TDP

AMD CPUs have a TDP of 65W for the Ryzen 5 5600X and 95W for higher-end CPUs. Intel ones are 105W and more. So if you want a power-efficient CPU then AMD is the way to go.

What CPU do I need for 1440p gaming?

The Ryzen 7 5800X is more than enough for 1440p gaming. It comes with 8 cores and 12 threads, hence gaming at 1440p with the Ryzen 7 5800X is easy. The only thing is the GPU, a powerful high-end GPU such as the RTX 3070 or the RTX 3080 can churn out games 1440p with high graphics settings at 144 FPS.

Does CPU matter at 1440p?

The CPU usage has no direct impact if you playing at 1440p. The usage will remain almost the same as in 1080p. The GPU is the one that matter when scaling from 1080p to 1440p gaming. The GPU usage with increase exponentially while the CPU usage by increase by around 10%.

Is AMD better for 1440p?

Most modern games are dependent on single core performance rather than multi-threaded performance. The new AMD Ryzen CPU’s have far superior single core performance when compared to their intel counter-parts. So the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X is a well around CPU for gaming at 1440p.
